T5 (roughly 2003–2015)

Watch for EGR and turbo issues on higher-mileage diesels, dual-mass flywheel wear (listen for rattle on clutch engagement) and rust on rear arches or tailgates. Electrical gremlins on central locking are worth a diagnostic scan.

T6 (2015–2022)

AdBlue faults can trigger limp mode; DSG boxes need proof of fluid changes. On converted campers, inspect pop-top seals and side window fitment, water ingress is often conversion-related, not VW factory.

T7 (2022 onwards)

Software updates often cure infotainment freezes. Driver-assist alerts can feel sensitive, test on your usual roads. Check professional conversion quality; rattles may be fit-out, not platform.
