Dormobile blended dormire (to sleep) with mobile, Martin Walter’s conversions in the 1950s turned everyday vans into dual-purpose work and leisure vehicles as UK holidays boomed.

The sideways roof signature

Unlike rear pop-tops common on modern VW campers, many Dormobiles lifted at the side, creating headroom and bunk space without extending rear overhang, handy on tight Welsh lanes.
